These leaders promote diversity and strive for inclusive hiring practices and female-friendly workplace policies.
Google’s Sundar Pichai, Apple’s Tim Cook, Salesforce’s Marc Benioff, and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg are among the top-rated CEOs for diversity and for women, according to two new surveys.
Comparably, a career and compensation website, ranked the 50 best chief executives in those two categories on the basis of its ratings by employees. The lists have separate rankings for companies with more than 500 employees and those that have fewer.
“These CEOs have fostered company cultures that embrace diversity and inclusion, as shown by the feedback of their employees,” said Jason Nazar, the CEO of Comparably and an Inc. columnist.
T-Mobile CEO John Legere earned the No. 1 ranking for diversity among leaders of large companies, followed by Brad Smith of Intuit and Brian Halligan of HubSpot. For small and medium-size companies, Mahe Bayireddi of Phenom People took the top spot. Sameer Dholakia of SendGrid and Harry Glaser of Periscope Data ranked second and third, respectively. Survey respondents commented that their company leaders had worked to develop diverse workplaces with inclusive, respectful cultures.
The survey on women took into account leaders’ success implementing inclusive hiring practices and policies like parental leave, as well their efforts to close the gender wage gap. Craig Jelinek of Costco led the ranking for large companies, followed by Microsoft’s Satya Nadella and Bert Bean of Insight Global. At small and medium-size companies, Noah Kerner of Acorns held the No. 1 spot, trailed by Gavan Thorpe of Boostability and Bayireddi.
Silicon Valley heavyweights occupied many top spots in the diversity survey: Pichai ranked No. 6, while Benioff was No. 9, Cook was No. 15, and Zuckerberg was 21st. For the survey on women, Benioff ranked No. 10, Pichai held the 13th slot, Zuckerberg was No. 19, and Cook was No. 20.
